Registration for the 2019 season is now closed. Club registration takes place every year in January. Registration runs until January 31 or until the squadra rider cap is reached whichever is first. Returning club members have the first opportunity to register. If spots are available after returning member signup is complete, we will open registration to new members. If you are not an existing member and are interested in registering for the club, please complete the form on our contact page to be notified when/if spots become available.
Cyclemeisters is a bicycle racing club and our goal is to promote and support road, mountain, track and cyclocross racers and races in Alberta, especially junior development (Sorry no downhill or BMX). There are two types of club membership:
(a) Squadra membership—for individuals who will obtain an ABA race licence and race in Alberta Cup Track/MTB/Road/CX races, squadra members are eligible for race fee reimbursement according to club policy and are required to fulfill volunteer requirements
(b) General membership—for individuals who will not have an ABA race licence, not eligible for reimbursements, no volunteer commitments
The club funds all ABA races, race licenses and up to $70/night for races more than 2 hours away for squadra members up to a capped amount as set by the club executive every season. Out of province races may be funded for elite, provincial team and paracyclist squadra members at the discretion of the executive.
The club also provides coaching support to U23 and paracyclists in their second years (and up) as squadra members. Oval coaching fee reimbursements are as follows: $500 for kids in Devo, $750 for kids in Link and $1,000 for kids in Performance as well as para-cyclists. Reimbursement of coaching fees is contingent on regular attendance at training and participation in some racing. We are no longer funding out-of-province training camps for U23s and paracyclists. Please note that reimbursement amounts stated above for the U23 program may be increased based on enrollment numbers.
Funding comes from race revenue and, to a large extent, a casino held every 18-24 months. All squadra members are required to provide a volunteer over 18 for the casinos unless they are a member of the executive or directing one club’s races. Families with two kids who are squadra members are expected to provide two volunteers for the casino.
The club typically hosts two major ABA races: (1) the gruelling mountain bike enduro, Organ Grinder, in early June at the Canmore Nordic Centre; and, (2) the Dark Knight, a Cyclocross extravaganza in mid fall. All members are required to volunteer for one of the two events and race organizers will be in touch closer to race dates to co-ordinate volunteers. (Failure to meet volunteer commitments may result in expulsion from the club and/or suspension of reimbursements.)
Club members are required to wear their club kit loud and proud for all ABA races and in any other event where they will be reimbursed by CMC. At races and any other time team kit is being worn, members are expected to honour the club and the sponsors whose banners we ride under with good sportsmanship. Meanwhile, if you wear your kit on the pathways or in a training ride, obey the rules of the road and common courtesy so you don’t make us or our sponsors look bad.
